Climate Register

Essays by Peter Salter and Peter Smithson

The Smithsons have long been sensitive to the manner in which the detailing of a building can be informed by the circumstances and nuances of place, of which the weather is a universal 'given'...

Climate Register interprets their work through the filter of the 'climate register', using the example of four projects: the Economist Building; Second Arts building, Bath; the unbuilt Kuwait Mat-Building; and the Alexandrina Library competition entry. The result of research by the AA's Diploma Unit 6, Climate Register is in a sense a mediated conversation between students and the Smithsons - between two generations of architects.
