A focus on architectures of decolonization in South Asia, 1947-1985. This MOMA publication investigates how South Asian architects broke with the colonial past and found ingenious ways to negotiate modernism's universalist claims, working with specific material and labor conditions. Included are thematic essays addressing characteristic aspects of modern architecture culture in South Asia, alongside transformative projects and a photographic portfolio of newly commissioned work by architectural photographer Randhir Singh.
