AMAG 33 Miller & Maranta

AMAG 33 is dedicated to the work of the swiss studio, Miller & Maranta, based in Basel.

Quintus Miller and Paola Maranta met in the 1980s while studying at the ETH in Zurich. The teaching of analogue architecture, with which Fabio Reinhard and Miroslav Sik challenged the traditionally polytechnic orientation of this school and its deep anchoring in modern architecture, was formative. In close dialogue with models, mostly from the early or pre-modern period, they created pictorial, atmospheric and often almost theatrical projects. Miller & Maranta’s architecture still has a narrative element to it today. Their buildings tell stories. Of perseverance and the will to defy inhospitable nature on the St Gotthard Pass.
