Meanwhile City

By Milk and Petra Marko

Cities need effective tools to adapt - especially in these times of increasing social, economic and environmental uncertainty. Temporary interventions also known as meanwhile projects, are an important tool for the resilience of cities. When done well, they can enhance a city's ability to course-correct, recover in the face of adversity, and encourage physical and behavioural changes. This publication of actionable lessons, best practices and inspiration was put together by a team of designers, researchers and editors led by the architect Petra Marko at Milk. City leaders, urban practitioners and private developers can harness the power of meanwhile to communicate with the public, shape the identity of places and build active communities around them.
