Studio Tom Emerson ETH Zurich – Yearbook

By Tom Emerson

Studio Tom Emerson is a design and research chair in the Department of Architecture at ETH Zurich. Set-up in 2010, the studio focuses on re-use and bricolage in architecture & the narrative of history. This yearbook presents an approximate compilation of work from the autumn semester 2010 and spring semester 2011. The design studio is centered on the collaborative exploration of materials and construction in full size building projects re-using material and in more speculative projects re-using large fragments of existing urban fabric; first in Peckham south east London and a then along the riverbank of the Sihl in Zurich. The rhyme between history and construction is expanded in the elective courses, Measures & Repair and the lecture series, Six Turns in the Architectural Imagination.
